Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Amazon: one of the Big Tech companies, one of FAANG
- Web: accessible via web protocols and the internet
- Services: ongoing offering that customers can use for a period of time, usually with pay-as-you-go pricing (pay as much as you use)
- e.g. your Internet Service Provider (ISP) offers you internet connection as a service: you pay a monthly fee for using the internet at a specified speed/performance. You can start a contract with an ISP and you can stop a contract with an ISP, and you will pay for the duration of the service
- Other examples of services: Netflix subscription, water or heating services to your apartment, charging your electric vehicle at a charging station…
- ❗ Contrast a service to a product! A product, strictly speaking, is something you just purchase and keep for yourself, e.g. a lunch box from a supermarket. But HelloFresh is a service: it brings you meals regularly and you pay for as long as you use the service.
